Dr. Benjamin Stein was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and moved to the Washington, DC area for his undergraduate studies at The George Washington University. He continued at the GW School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D. with honors. Upon graduation he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society and received the Julius S. Neviaser Award in Orthopaedic Surgery.
He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he received world-class training across every area of orthopaedics. During residency he was awarded the Johns Hopkins General Surgery Intern of the Year, was honored with the Frank L. Coulson Award for Clinical Excellence in his final year and was appointed the administrative chief resident. He also provided orthopedic coverage for Navy Football, Johns Hopkins Lacrosse, and the Baltimore Orioles.
Dr. Stein went on to pursue subspecialty training in foot and ankle surgery, selected for the renowned fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. For a year he trained alongside some of the world’s leading surgeons in complex foot and ankle reconstruction.
He has presented numerous scientific papers at national and international meetings and has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, and has co-authored several book chapters. He holds a part-time appointment as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University and remains active in both research and resident education.
Today, Dr. Stein practices in Chevy Chase, Maryland, serving patients throughout the greater Washington, DC area. His practice spans the full spectrum of orthopedic care — comprehensive expertise from head to toe, grounded in his Johns Hopkins training — with sub-specialized expertise in sports-related and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. He has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine, Castle Connolly, and Northern Virginia Magazine for over ten years running, in both general orthopedics and as a foot and ankle specialist.
His practice is built on a founding belief: you deserve a physician who has the time, expertise, and clinical freedom to get it exactly right.
Outside of work, Dr. Stein enjoys traveling, golf, and staying active outdoors. He and his wife live in Bethesda, Maryland, with their two daughters, and treasure the time they spend together with family and friends.
